Features of bulb replacement in a spot light fixture

In spotlights, the bulbs are mounted at the same level as the ceiling or other surface, so it can be difficult to replace them. One simple option is to use duct tape. But because of a number of design features, this method may not work.

In this case, to change the lamp in one of the spotlights, you will have to disassemble them and remove the rings that are around the reflective surface. In addition, to replace a ruined bulb, it is necessary to figure out exactly what model is installed.

Variety of bulbs for ceiling lights

Several varieties of bulbs can be installed in spotlights. They differ in type of construction and voltage. In the process of replacement, you need to consider the following:

• type of socket;
• Voltage: 24, 12 or 200 V.

With a voltage of 12 V, you can use bulbs that are not afraid of high humidity. They are installed in the kitchen, bathroom and other rooms where humidity is high. The variety of the base will depend on the types of fixtures, for example:

• GX53;
• E14;
• GU10;
• E27;
• GU5.3;
• GU4.

According to the types of bases can be divided into 2 groups - pin and threaded. In the first case, the lamps are installed without turning. LED devices, incandescent lamps, as well as halogen and fluorescent lamps are mounted in the threaded base. LED bulbs and fluorescent are called energy-saving bulbs. Types of lighting fixtures design

Spotlights are divided by functionality, method of installation and adjustment. In the second case, they can be recessed, overhead and pendant. Overhead most often installed on a barque base - brick walls or concrete ceilings. They are suitable if you want to emphasize certain elements of the interior and not affect the size of the room.

The construction of the surface-mounted luminaire consists of a mounting pad, diffuser and housing. The peculiarity of this type is the need to install a mounting bar over a hole smaller than the body itself. If this is not taken into account, it will not be covered by the plafond. The body should be fixed to the mounting pad. Side screws are used for this purpose.

Recessed models are installed on frame bases, it can be:

• wall niches;
• plasterboard structures;
• furniture partitions;
• walls and slatted ceilings;
• stretch ceilings.

The luminaire body has clips and fasteners. No external reinforcements are required. For installation in the ceiling, you must prepare a hole with wired entrances in advance.

Ceiling lights are mounted at a certain distance from the mounting surface. The lamp itself is hung on a decorative power cable, which is attached to the ceiling. It is not necessary to reinforce the construction with additional parts.

But if it is a massive lamp, it is recommended to additionally install mounting strips. They are usually made of metal or wood. Pendant lights are mounted on any base, but in most cases they are used as a separate element of the decor.

Replacing the lamp in steps

The procedure for replacing the bulb directly depends on the type of socket. If we are talking about replacing devices on GU5,3, it occurs as follows:

1. The first step is to turn off the power. This will protect the master from electric shock, as the switch does not always disconnect the phase wire.
2. If there is a decorative plafond, it must be removed.
3. Hold the locking bracket with your fingers by the special "tendrils". You have to be careful at this point, because the removed stopper sometimes slips out of your fingers.
4. The bulb is now hanging from the wire. Holding it, the bulb must be removed from the base. It is important not to pull on the wire too hard so as not to tear it off.
5. The last step is to reassemble the construction in the reverse order.

Sometimes the stopper won't go back in place. This can happen for two reasons. The first reason is that the lamp is not fully inserted. The second reason is that the ring does not fit the lamp. This happens if the craftsman mixed them up when changing several lamps at the same time.

Replacement for the GX53.

The device resembles a tablet: it has a round shape and a frosted white diffuser. In this case, the replacement process is easier than in the previous version:

1. One hand should take hold of the bulb.
2. The other hand holds the frame.
3. Then turn the bulb counterclockwise by about 20°.
4. The bulb can now be removed.
5. The new one is installed in the reverse order. To do this, just turn the bulb clockwise.

It is not necessary to pull the base out of the socket. The design is designed so that the lamp can be easily removed. It should also be easy to insert. The device is fixed by turning and establishing the stops in a narrow opening.

How to replace lamps with E14 and E27 bases

In spotlights, such bulbs are much less common than pin bulbs. To replace a burnt-out bulb you need to unscrew and remove from the lamp. After that, a new bulb is installed in its place. Depending on the type of luminaire, a retaining ring can be used as a threaded base or the luminaire can be removed directly from the ceiling.

The device is mounted to the plasterboard surface using spring-loaded "legs". They are facing each other and are spread apart by the pressure created by the spring. In the process of replacement, you should carefully pull the spot out of the ceiling surface to conveniently unscrew the bulb and install a new one.

Replacing fixtures in a suspended ceiling

In this case, the light fixture is installed on the mounting rings. The spot is held by spring legs, which rest in the ring through the ceiling. To remove the device, you need to perform 2 actions:

• Take hold of the ring in the ceiling by hand;
• gently pull the body of the lamp.

The springs will begin to compress, and then the stops will be released from the ring. The stops must be brought together so that they go into the ring on the ceiling. It is not necessary to pull hard on the body to avoid damaging the ceiling surface. It should be done with smooth movements. The wire going to the cartridge is usually long, so it should not create resistance.

Removing a Broken or Stuck Bulb

If the bulb is damaged and stuck in the spotlight, it does not have to be disassembled. The first step is to get rid of the remains of the bulb housing. The next step is to remove all the insides to get to the base.

Next, it is necessary to take thin pliers and carefully bend the base from the lamp, after which it can be easily pulled out. Before doing this, it is important not to forget to turn off the power supply.

Conclusion

To replace the lamp in the luminaire, it is not necessary to invite a master. To do this, you need to determine the type of the base and use the appropriate instructions. You should also be aware of certain features of the socket, for example, type GU5.3 does not work correctly with lamps over 40 watts.
