Angel eyes installation and connection

It is not as difficult to install angel eyes in the headlights as it may seem at first glance. But it will have to spend a lot of time for preparation and installation, especially if homemade devices will be used. There are different options for carrying out the work, the easiest way to assemble the system on their own, using materials that are not difficult to find.

What is needed to make "angel headlights"

First of all, you need to prepare the necessary materials and tools. The list looks like this:

1. White LEDs White LEDs with a diameter of 5 mm - 2 pcs. for each headlight. The brighter they are, the better, but in radio electronics stores most often sell standard versions without specifying the power.
2. 2 resistors, one for each element. It is best to use a model MLT-330 Ohm-0,25 W. If you can not find it, the store will recommend analogs with similar characteristics.
3. Wires for connecting all the elements of the system and its connection to the on-board power system of the car. The length depends on the peculiarities of the connection, you can take a variant with three strands in a braid, so that after laying the wiring looked neat.
4. Transparent rod with a diameter of 8-10 mm. It can be made of either Plexiglas or modern polymeric materials. Most often such elements are sold in stores of curtains or in places where there are products for needlework and decorating.

You will also need a set of tools and devices for the work:

1. To form a ring of a suitable diameter, you will need a jar or any other container of the right size. It should be selected according to the situation, the main thing - so that the diameter coincided with the headlights and "angel eyes" fell into place without displacement and distortion.
2. To drill the hole you will need a screwdriver or a small drill and a metal drill 6 mm in diameter. To fix the rod it is worth using a vise, otherwise it is difficult to ensure its stationary position.
   When drilling holes in the ends, accuracy is important.
3. Wires to fix with a soldering iron, so it is also to have it on hand.
4. To bend the rod it is convenient to heat it with a construction hair dryer, this is the easiest way. If you don't have a hair dryer, you can use a microwave or hot water.

Rods can take different diameters to experiment and pick the one that will look best.

How to assemble the "eyes" correctly

The work requires accuracy and precision, here you can not do everything hastily, it will affect the appearance badly. Therefore, it is worth to prepare the workplace and do everything without haste, avoiding damage to the elements. Instructions for assembly:

1. First, the diameter of the headlight is measured to determine the size of the tube and cut a piece of the right size. It is most convenient to do it with a hacksaw for metal, the plastic does not melt and the cut is perfectly straight.
2. In the ends are drilled holes with a diameter of 6 mm and a depth of about a centimeter. The LEDs should fit freely in them, this is an important point.
3. The prepared rod is well heated with a construction hair dryer until it becomes malleable. After that, it is necessary to form from it a ring of suitable diameter around the pre-prepared jar. The element is held for about a minute, after it has cooled, it will hold its shape.
4. Wires are carefully soldered to the legs of the diodes, their length should be long enough to lead outside the headlight. It is best to use copper wires, they bend well and do not break even with enough strain.
5. To one of the LEDs you must solder a resistor. Then the circuit is assembled so that the following results are obtained in series connection of two diodes and a resistor. It is easy to understand even without any experience in assembling electrical systems. Cover the soldering points and connections with heat shrink tubing, it is much more reliable than electrical tape.
6. The LEDs are carefully inserted into the holes and aligned, then filled with superglue or nail polish. When the composition dries, the elements are ready for use.
   The diodes are filled with glue compound.
7. To improve the lighting along the diameter of the ring 5-10 mm apart, you can make even notches with a dremel or any other device. The stripes will stand out when you turn on lightsThis makes the homemade version very similar to the factory one.

You can only use white diodes, the rest will be a violation of traffic rules and for them can write out penalty.

Installation on the car

Assemble "angel eyes" - this is only half of the case, then there will be more time-consuming and responsible work. Start it after checking the performance of the assembled elements. If everything is normal, you should follow a simple instruction:

1. The headlights must be removed. To do this, study the instruction manual or find information on the Internet. Sometimes the work requires the removal of the bumper or the front trim, which complicates the process.
2. Glass must be separated from the body, most often it is fixed with polyurethane compound, you need to soften it. It is more convenient to do this with a construction hair dryer, warming the joint around the perimeter and carefully separating the elements with a flat screwdriver. Another option is to put the headlight in the microwave for a minute or more - depending on the situation. The glue will soften and the glass will come away from the body easily.
3. Remaining glue must be completely removed from the glass and the body, you can use any handy items for this. The work is not complicated, but it takes a lot of time.
4. Installation of angel eyes in the headlight is simple. Elements are aligned evenly, and then they need to be fixed in a suitable position with a heat gun or a special automotive double-sided adhesive tape. Then the wires are carefully led to the back of the headlights through the technological hole, it is important not to forget to do it at this stage.
5. After attaching the elements, the glass is glued back on. To do this, a special compound for headlights is purchased and applied strictly according to the instructions. It is necessary to fix the parts with adhesive tape and hold so for a while, until the glue has hardened.

Securely fasten the elements is important.

After the composition dries, the headlights are put in place, it is important not to dislodge the settings, so you do not have to correct the light again.

Correct connection

Connecting angel eyes can be carried out in different ways. Therefore, first select the appropriate way, and then the work is carried out according to the instructions.

Connecting to the lights

This is the easiest solution, which will take a minimum of time and ensure stable operation of the lights. But here, too, there may be different methods of connection:

1. In cases where you want the "angel eyes" to work together with the regular parking lights, you need to connect the wire from them to the plus in the two-plug bulb connector. Solder the wire to ensure reliability, in the extreme case twist is used, but this is undesirable. The minus wire is attached to any place on the car body, you can use the eyelet, which is crimped and secured with a bolt or nut.
2. If you want the light does not work when you turn on the peephole, you need to remove the plug from the body and take out of it the plus wire. To this connector or solder attached to the lead from them. Minus, as in the previous case, is attached to the body, the place is chosen according to the situation.

Connection with 3 wires

The variant with three wires is good because the "angel eyes" are disconnected when the dipped or high beam is on. Two PC 702 relays, which can be found at auto parts stores, are additionally needed for work. The work is carried out as follows:

1. The wire to the plus in the clearance socket is pulled outward.
2. From the minus wire is pulled to pin 87 of the relay.
3. On the terminal 30/51 put the positive wire, which will power the eyes.
4. From terminal 86 the ground wire is laid and fastened to the car body.
5. Next, it is necessary to find the relay of the passing and driving lights, in different models, their location may differ. From terminal 86 with both elements runs a wire that must be soldered to the LEDs.
6. Wires from the diodes are connected to terminal 85 of the PC 702 relay.

This option significantly prolongs the life of the LEDs, because most of the time they do not work.
